De Burgos Bengoetxea collects the Vicente Acevedo Award as the best First Division referee

Luis Rubiales presided over the award ceremony and was present at the seminar being held in La Granja (Segovia)

Referees Ricardo De Burgos Bengoetxea, as main referee, and Diego Sánchez Rojo, as assistant referee, received the Vicente Acevedo Award on Tuesday, an award that accredits them as the best referees in the First Division last season.

The president of the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), Luis Rubiales, presided at La Granja (Segovia), where a seminar for First and Second Division referees is being held, this delivery of the Vicente Acevedo Awards, which crown the best collegiate last year.

Luis Medina Cantalejo, president of the Technical Committee of Referees (CTA), opened the event by thanking Rubiales for their presence in it. “It is a pride that you are with us”, he applauded, before reminding all the referees that receiving the Vicente Acevedo is something “that remains forever once the arbitration career is abandoned”.


On this occasion, Ricardo De Burgos Bengoetxea (C. Vasco), as main referee, and Diego Sánchez Rojo (C. Gallego), as assistant referee, received their award as the best referees in the First Division. For their part, Juan Luis Pulido Santana (C. Canario) and Fabián Blanco Rodríguez (C. Gallego) received their award as the most outstanding in the silver division of Spanish football.

The act concluded with the intervention of the president of the RFEF, who affirmed that the Spanish arbitration group was “at an exceptional level” during the past course. “You are the body of greatest excellence in the entire Federation. Continue to be exemplary on and off the field. To speak of a Spanish referee is to speak of the highest level,” he said.
