The Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) has made the decision to postpone the final of the Copa del Rey, which must face Athletic Club and Real Sociedad at the La Cartuja Stadium on April 18.

Luis Rubiales, president of the RFEF, met Tuesday with the president of Athletic and Real, Aitor Elizegi and Jokin Aperribay, who conveyed the request for the postponement due to the uncertainty caused by the coronavirus epidemic.

“We have to try to secure this final with the public in the stands, with a Charterhouse that is overflowing,” said Rubiales, who was still unable to provide an alternative date.

Elizegi, for his part, influenced the role of the fans for this final. “We need our fans to breathe and that is what we have to put ahead. And also their health,” Prima will collaborate with the situation we are experiencing, “revealed the Athletic manager.

“Find the best solution”

Likewise, Aperribay thanked the RFEF for “seeking” the best solution. “The first thing is to guarantee our fans how they will participate. They are the key piece in this final,” stressed the president of Real.

The fans of both clubs, who had already started the procedures for a massive displacement to Seville, will thus have to change their plans. In the entire history of the Cup, Athletic and Real have never faced each other in the game that decides the title.
