MADRID, 17 Dic. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Spanish badminton player Carolina Marín has fallen in the grand final of the Badminton World Tour Finals, which are being held in Hangzhou (China), against the Taiwanese Tai Tzu-Ying (12-21, 21-14, 21- 18), which has deprived the Huelva native of the only major title she has left to add to her record.
After winning four victories this week, the current world runner-up lost in the match for the 'master' title to the world number four, which already prevented her from winning the trophy in 2020, the other time in which the Spanish arrived at the end.
At the Hangzhou OSC Gymnasium, Marín started strongly. After a few first exchanges, he took off with a run of 10-3 (14-7) that allowed him to get a set back on track that finally ended up taking just 21 minutes. Already in the second set, she reached the halfway point (11-9), but the Asian player reacted to sign a vital 6-0 to equalize the contest.
In the third set, in which the Spaniard enjoyed up to three points of advantage, Tzu-Ying came back again to get closer to the final victory. The Huelva native neutralized two match points, although she could not prevent the Asian from becoming champion in the third, after one hour and 12 minutes of play.
In this way, Marín, Olympic champion in Rio 2016, three-time world champion and six-time European champion, bids a bittersweet farewell to a week in which she has demonstrated her full recovery after two serious knee injuries, which raises hopes for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
