Carlos Alcaraz: “I can get a very good result in Madrid”

MADRID, 1 May. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Spanish tennis player Carlos Alcaraz was convinced of his chances of achieving “a very good result” at the Mutua Madrid Open, the fourth Masters 1,000 of the season, where he will benefit from the support of the fans and his physical and mental progress last year .

“The doubles help, it is not easy to play in the Manolo Santana, with so many people waiting. There is shade, there is sun, everyone behind you, and different details. It was Marc’s idea. He wrote to me and told me that he was going to play his last tournament here in Madrid. He was excited to play this doubles with me. I didn’t hesitate, I told him I’d be delighted, after talking to the team”, he said.

The Murcian player attended a press conference with the media for the first time at La Caja Mágica this Sunday, after his debut with victory in the doubles draw together with Marc López. Alcaraz will debut on Tuesday in the singles draw in Madrid, where he made his debut last year on his 18th birthday against Rafa Nadal.

“As a player I have grown a lot, and as a person. Last year I came to live these games, gain some experience to try to be on a par with the best in the world. Now I can consider myself one of them. I am number nine in the world and I’m a more mature player. Now I approach games differently, I think I can win any game and maybe last year I had more doubts,” he said.

The one from El Palmar returns to Madrid in the ‘Top 10’, with three titles in 2022, four in total, and with an unstoppable game, with a 23-3 this season. “I think I can win every tournament I play. I think I have the level and the physicality to win, but this is tennis and anything can happen. I feel prepared, with confidence, I think I can get a very good result here in Madrid” , he claimed.

“I’ve seen the draw, but it’s a Masters 1,000. Each game is very complicated. I have to go game by game and I hope to face Nadal a year later. It’s not easy to play at home, there’s a lot of expectation, a lot of people want to see you do it well. But I turn that around, I turn it into motivation, extra help and strength, “he finished.
