Carles Gil named MLS Player of the Month for June

Spanish midfielder Carles Gil, of the New England Revolution, was voted Player of the Month in the Professional Soccer League (MLS) from the United States for their contribution during the competition last June.

Gil had five assists in June, assisting all but two of the seven goals that the Revolution scored from June 23 to 26.

The Spanish midfielder provided the assists on five consecutive Revolution goals, tying for the sixth-best mark in MLS history.

Gil amassed 10 assists in the first 10 games of a season, making him the second player in MLS history to do so. after the first to do so was former Colombian midfielder Carlos Valderrama.

Gil's contribution began with two assists in the Revolution's 3-2 win against New York City FC. on June 19.

Then, in New England's win over the New York Red Bulls on June 23, Gil assisted in all goals in the 3-2 win. which extended the Revolution's winning streak to five games, one less than the club's record.

The performances extended Gil's personal streak to five straight games with one assist, equaling the eighth longest career in MLS history.

In this way, Gil began the MLS 2021 campaign with one of the best streaks in the history of the league, since the midfielder is the second player to accumulate 10 assists in his team's first 10 games, after Valderrama, who did it with Tampa Bay Mutiny in 2000.

Valderrama went on to count 26 assists in the 2000 season, a record that still stands to this day., and he is just one of only three players in MLS history to have 20 or more assists in a single season.
