José Bordalás, Getafe CF coach, admitted that the 5-1 conceded against the Athletic club in San Mamés it was “a very hard defeat” that “did not fit into the script” of a game in which the defensive errors of his team “penalized a lot” to the azulón team.
“I do not want to detract from Athletic, but defensively we have been very vulnerable, very soft. All the lateral centers have finished them off and they have scored us all five goals that way. We have been very deficient on a defensive level ”, lamented the Alicante coach.
Bordalás added that, after making “a good first half” in which they took the lead at 19 seconds of play with a goal from Marc Cucurella, the penalty that stopped Unai Simon Jaime Mata shortly before half an hour, already with 1-1 on the scoreboard, “perhaps the script would have changed.”
“But it was not like that. We went 1-1 at halftime
and in the second part we were not well. It is not something usual and all the errors have been gathered in the same game. It was a forceful and painful defeat and we have to improve in those actions because they have penalized us a lot, ”he insisted Bordalás.
