Atlético’s Children’s Day comes of age

The Children’s Day of Atlético de Madrid becomes of age. Because this Monday, April 4th, it was 18 years since the first time that the rojiblanco club, in what was a pioneering initiative in the world of Spanish football, celebrated this day dedicated to its smallest followers.

On April 4, 2004, Atlético received Valladolid at the Vicente Calderón. 2-0 for the colchoneros with goals from Fernando Torreswho else, and Veljko Paunovic. It was the day chosen to launch Children’s Day. First in some gardens near the stadium, which soon became too small, and then in the parking lot of the La Ermita shopping center, where there were already more activities for the kids.

Already with the transfer to the Metropolitan, more space was gained to continue celebrating this holiday for children, which in 2022 will take place next Sunday, April 17, on the occasion of the visit of the Spanish to the Madrid Coliseum.

And as a note, although in its first years of life, this celebration had a reputation for being jinxed, because Atlético fell on some occasion, for many years it has been the opposite, since the rojiblanco team has accumulated several victories in a row on this very special day.
