Arsenal thrashes Chelsea and consolidates its lead in the Premier League

MADRID, 23 Abr. (EUROPA PRESS) –

Arsenal have settled into the lead of the Premier League after beating Chelsea (5-0), lost without Cole Palmer, this Tuesday in the postponed match of the twenty-ninth matchday, a result that puts pressure on Liverpool and the Manchester City.

At the Emirates Stadium, Mikel Arteta’s men took just four minutes to open their account, after Belgian Leandro Trossard beat the ‘blue’ goalkeeper with a powerful shot. Nicolas Jackson had the equalizer in the 23rd minute, but his shot hit the post.

Already after the restart, Ben White increased the Gunners’ advantage by hunting down a rebound inside the area, and five minutes later Kai Havertz made it 3-0 in a one-on-one with Petrovic. The German midfielder sealed his double in the 65th minute, while the British defender also scored the second in the 80th to confirm the ‘little hand’.

In this way, Arsenal sits in first place with 77 points, three more than Liverpool (74), with one game less and which plays this Wednesday the Merseyside derby at Everton’s home; and four more than City (73), who still have two games to play and who are looking for their fourth consecutive league victory away from home against Brighton on Thursday.

Mauricio Pochettino’s men, who showed their dependence on Palmer, who was absent due to discomfort, interrupted a streak of eight Premier games by adding points and remain ninth with 47 points, three away from sixth place.
