Álvaro Romero, junior snowboard cross world champion

MADRID, 30 Mar. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Spanish athlete from the Movistar SBX Team Álvaro Romero won gold this Thursday in the SBX Junior World Championships at Passo San Pellegrino, winning all his series to emulate Lucas Eguibar and Regino Hernández.

Romero (NKEF-DALTON) was on display in all the qualifying rounds to unite his name with illustrious Spaniards in snow sports. In 2011, Regino Hernández, in Valmalenco (Italy), was the first Spanish junior world champion and, two years later, in Turkey, Lucas Eguibar (NKEF-DALTON) won it at the Erzurum station.

The Basque, who made up for third place in 2021 and fourth in Veysonnaz, beat Achille Leleu, Aidan Chollet and James Savard-Ferguson in the grand final. “Very excited and happy. I knew it was going to be a very hard day because even though it was a Junior World Cup there was a high level. In training on March 29 I was going very fast and throughout today, March 30, I knew that I was not going to leave anything on the track”, said the Spaniard in statements provided by the Royal Spanish Federation of Winter Sports.

“In fact, I have passed first in all the rounds except in the Grand Final, which has been very tight until the last corner that I managed to pass my opponents. This gold is a great finish to a season in which I have made the podium in Veysonnaz in the World Cup and I have also been champion of Spain. It helps me, without a doubt, to prepare the new season with desire and enthusiasm and start with everything next year”, he added.
