Álex Márquez: “Honda’s situation does not surprise me, there have been no changes internally”

MADRID, 30 Ago. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Spanish MotoGP rider Álex Márquez (Ducati) highlighted this Wednesday that his objective this season is to be “always in the ‘top 5′” and try to follow “the same line” as in the first ten tests, in which he has achieved a podium in Argentina and a victory in the sprint race of the British Grand Prix, while confessing that he is not “surprised” by the situation that Honda is going through.

“The objective is to try to continue in the same line, try to take advantage of the opportunities that we have and above all to always be in the top 5, I think that is the objective, it is where we have to look and hopefully be more constant and be there in front, because it has been that you grow in level”, declared the one from Cervera in an interview with Hawkers collected by Europa Press.

Regarding his victory at Silverstone, Márquez said that “the illusion” of achieving it was “always” there, but it was that day when “the conditions” were met to achieve it. “At moments like this, it is not so noticeable if you have more or less experience with the bike, but rather the sensations of the rider in that race and I was able to achieve it,” he assessed.

The youngest of the Márquez family has just renewed with Gresini Racing, which gives him “tranquility”, because it is a “headache” to be thinking about the future. “The truth is that I must say that there has been no problem at any time with the renewal,” he stressed.

With this agreement, Ducati was secured for another year, the dominant frame at the moment, although he assured that the perfect motorcycle “never exists.” “I would say that the bike lacks nothing, if not my more experience with my riding style to be able to always adapt it to each situation”, he explained.

Álex Márquez will face the next championship with more experience with this bike, which will generate “more pressure” with “higher” expectations, although he keeps his feet on the ground. “We must not lose our heads and be realistic about the situation we are in, because it does not mean that a second year you have to go faster, sometimes it is difficult and you always have to be prepared for everything,” said the youngest of the Márquez.

“Compared to the other Hondas, it can be a step behind in points and as an organization in speed when it comes to making changes or adjusting things,” the Gresini man reviewed his old brand, confessing that he is not “surprised” by the situation they are going through, away from the front posts, because “there have not been” excessive internal changes either.

Álex Márquez faces the Catalan Grand Prix this weekend “with great enthusiasm and a lot of motivation”, although he is aware that this “extra” speed could play “tricks” on him. “The clear objective is to be in the top 5 and if we are good at trying to take advantage and go for more, and if not have a solid weekend like we did in Austria”, he concluded.
