Alejandro Blanco, the only candidate for the presidency of the COE

MADRID, 29 Oct. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The current president of the Spanish Olympic Committee (COE), Alejandro Blanco, has been the only leader who has presented his candidacy to preside over the body during the period 2021-2025, after the deadline for submission of candidacies has ended this Friday.

As happened in the last electoral process, that of 2017, the Ourense president has been the only one who has presented, with the required documents, his formal candidacy before the Secretary General, for which he will aspire to his fifth term as head of the COE.

“Alejandro Blanco has the unanimous support of the 35 Olympic Federations, who have presented their respective endorsements in his favor, as they did in previous electoral processes, and of the vast majority of the Non-Olympic Federations,” the agency explained in a statement.

On Thursday, November 4, the Electoral Board will meet to examine and admit or reject the candidacy; If this progresses, it will proclaim Blanco as the only candidate for the elections to the presidency of the COE 2021.

Blanco assumed the presidency of the COE in 2005, in which he relieved José María Echevarría after winning the elections against Mercedes Coghen. In 2009 and 2013, he was the only candidate and he endorsed his position without any vote against.
