Actress Taraneh Alidoosti, star of ‘The Salesman,’ arrested for “inciting” riots in Iran

Taraneh Alidoosticonsidered one of the best actresses in Iran, was arrested this Saturday accused of inciting riots in her country, which were triggered three months ago by the death of the young Kurdish woman, Mahsa Aminiin the custody of the Moral Police.

According to Hamshahri Online, the actress known for her role in the film the salesmanwinner of an Oscar in 2016, “has been arrested for her actions in posting false and distorted content, inciting riots and supporting anti-Iranian movements.”

Local media link his arrest to his latest post on social media. The artist shared an image on December 8 that read “Your silence means support for oppression and the oppressor. All international organizations that observe this bloodshed and do not act are a shame for humanity.” That same day, a 23-year-old became the first person to be executed by the authorities because of the protests.

After almost three months of mobilizations, thousands of people have been arrested and 400 have been sentenced to prison terms of up to 10 years for their participation in the riots, the Iranian judiciary reported on Tuesday.

It is not the first time that Taraneh has criticized the Iranian government and its police force. In June 2020, she received a five-month suspended prison sentence after she turned against the police for assaulting a woman who had removed her veil in 2018.
