The Spanish athlete María Pérez admitted that she was “happy with the world record” that she achieved with a time of 2:37:15 in the 35-kilometre walk test of the European Team Championship, which is being held in the town of Podebrady ( Czechia), and stressed that “I did not expect it at all”.
“The sensations from the beginning have been very good. The main objective was to reach the finish line. I am leaving happy with the world record, which I did not expect at all. But hey, in the last two laps we have fought, we have fought it. And happy because technically the improvement is noticeable”, declared the brand new world record holder to the Royal Spanish Athletics Federation (RFEA).
Raquel González also spoke, who took the silver with a time of 2:45:42. “Very happy, we came with two objectives. The first was to win gold with this great team and the second, well, an individual medal. In other words, we are going home from here, to Podebrady, very happy and with a lot of energy facing the summer”, he said about it.
The bronze medal, with a time of 2:45:42, went to Cristina Montesinos. “Personally, very happy with my personal best. I had the best sensations of the season and at the same time super happy to see that we were going for gold by teams. Very happy,” stressed Montesinos, whose third place completed the podium full of Spanish women.
In addition, the ninth position of Paula Juárez (2:55:14) gave Spain the title. “I am also happy because I have made a personal mark and I am also very happy to be here with my idols, which I did not expect,” Juárez herself acknowledged after an already historic career for the RFEA’s list of honors.
