Fernando Alonso: “Qualifying will probably be essential at Albert Park”

MADRID, 29 Mar. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Spanish driver Fernando Alonso (Aston Martin) hopes that the good results achieved in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia will help them this weekend at the Australian Grand Prix, an appointment to which they arrive “with their feet on the ground” and knowing that “Qualification will probably be critical.”

“We head to Australia feeling good after having achieved two consecutive podiums and we hope to build on these results this weekend,” Fernando Alonso celebrated in statements published this Wednesday on his team’s website.

The Spaniard believes that the ‘AMR23’ “has performed quite well on two different circuits so far.” “However, our feet remain on the ground and we are realistic that in order to continue to achieve good results we must deliver in all areas of the team,” he warned.

The two-time world champion recalled that the Australian Grand Prix “is always a fun race”. “I’m curious to see how the track differs from previous years. It’s going to be even faster than last year and hopefully we’ll see more overtaking,” he added.

“But as always qualifying will probably be critical at Albert Park so we need to make sure we have a strong Saturday to put ourselves in the best possible position to score as many points as possible,” Alonso said.

For his part, his teammate, Lance Stroll, goes to the third race of the season “eager” to forget the “disappointing” abandonment in Saudi Arabia and agrees with the Spaniard that Albert Park “is a very different circuit” from the first two. “There are no expectations, we will face it day by day,” he said.

“It’s a great track that evolves throughout the weekend as we put the tires on. I particularly like the turn 9-10 chicane, which is very fast and always fun to drive,” added the Canadian.
