Lebrón and Galán caress number 1 of 2022 in Malmö

Triay and Salazar break the record for titles in one year

MADRID, 14 Nov. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The couple formed by Juan Lebrón and Alejandro Galán has conquered the Areco Malmö Padel Open 2022 tournament of the World Padel Tour (WPT), by beating Agustín Tapia and ‘Sanyo’ Gutiérrez, to already caress the world number 1 this year and, in female category, the couple Gemma Triay-Alejandra Salazar won to break the record for titles in the same year.

The Swedish event in Malmö was historic in both categories. On the one hand, Lebrón and Galán almost certified finishing for the third consecutive year as the best couple in the world. It only remains to make it official, at a mathematical level, at the next appointment in Argentina, in Buenos Aires.

Lebrón –it would be his fourth year in a row at number 1– and Galán continue to show that they are unstoppable. Of course, in the Malmö final they had to come from behind (4-6, 6-1 and 6-2) against the Argentinians Agustín Tapia and ‘Sanyo’ Gutiérrez.

The first set was for the couple number 2 of the moment, after an even start in which no serves were given on either side of the net. It was in the ninth game when Tapia and Sanyo broke the Spaniards’ serve and knew how to close the first round in their favor.

However, ‘Ale’ Galán and Juan Lebrón answered with a 5-0 in their favor in the second set. After a resounding 6-1, the same trend was repeated in the third and final set, with an unstoppable net game and almost no errors to knock down the Argentines and seal that virtual number 1.

And, in the women’s tournament, history was not failed either. The indomitable couple formed by Gemma Triay and Alejandra Salazar beat Ariana Sánchez and Paula Josemaría 6-4 and 7-5 to break the record for tournaments won by a couple in the same year.

Salazar and Triay have won a total of 10 tournaments so far in 2022, a figure never reached before. Despite this, they are still the number 2 couple in the tournament, curiously behind their rivals in the Malmö final, and the fight for the women’s world number 1 is still open.
