Zandvoort will remain in Formula 1 until 2025

MADRID, 8 Dic. (EUROPA PRESS) –

Formula 1 will continue to compete at the Dutch Zandvoort track until 2025 at the Dutch Grand Prix, according to the new agreement announced on Thursday, which extends the original three-year contract that started in 2021.

“Formula 1 will continue to race at Zandvoort until 2025 after a new agreement between the competition and the Dutch track was announced on Thursday. The new agreement adds two more races to the original three-year contract, which began in 2021 when the Grand Prix from the Netherlands returned to the calendar for the first time since 1985,” Formula 1 said in a statement.

Already one of the most beloved races given the enthusiasm of Dutch fans, the race featured victories in 2021 and 2022 for local driver Max Verstappen, two-time world champion. In 2023, the event will take place at the end of August, with all the tickets already sold, and with two Dutch drivers on the grid, after the addition of Nyck de Vries with AlphaTauri.

In addition, the layout has been praised for its sustainability efforts, in a competition that wants to become ‘Net Zero Carbon’ by 2030. In the 2022 race, 99 percent of general ticket attendees headed to the circuit by transport public, by bike or walking. A smart electricity grid was also implemented, using alternative fuels, and a reduction in total CO2 emissions of 80 percent.

“The Dutch Grand Prix has quickly established itself on the calendar as a fan favorite, delivering incredible energy and a great experience every year,” said Stefano Domenicali, Formula 1 President and CEO.

“Sold-out events in the last two years have raised the bar in terms of organisation, entertainment and sustainability, and we are delighted to expand our relationship with them. There is great demand to host Formula 1 races,” he said.

Finally, the former driver and now sports director of the Dutch Grand Prix, Jan Lammers, confessed that he is looking forward to the next races in Zandvoort. “We will once again offer an extensive and amazing entertainment program. We want the world to experience again how we organize an event. It is unique that we are on the calendar with cities in the world such as Las Vegas, Monaco and Sao Paulo. We need and want to organize the event of Formula 1 of the future, better, more attractive, more innovative, more sustainable and more inclusive”, settled.
