MADRID, 5 Jul. (EUROPA PRESS) –

Vithas is once again, for the third consecutive year, the official medical service of the World Surf League (WSL) championships in Spain and from July 9 to 17 it will be present at the Pantín beach in the town of Valdoviño in Coruña to attend the participants of the 35th edition of the Abanca Pantín Classic Galicia Pro 2022, as well as the Galician championship and the adapted surfing championship.

In total, a dozen medical professionals, nurses and physiotherapists will travel from Vithas Vigo Hospital and Vithas Corporate Services to the most important professional surfing event held in Galicia.

In addition to offering medical-assistance services to participants in the tests, Vithas takes its health education program for citizens to Pantín, and will offer various training and informative actions.

Thus Vithas will have a specific position where the physiotherapists Alex Dios and Valentín Gutiérrez will assist the riders before and after their participation in the tests, from the two positions located in the exclusive area for competitors where they will have everything necessary for the massage manual, electrotherapy, dry needling, and other more complex treatments.

On the other hand, at the foot of the beach, Vithas will install an advanced medical post in which a doctor, a nurse and an emergency health technician will ensure the health of the attendees. The doctors will be doctors Manuel Valdés, Idoya Sanluis and Santiago Pereira-Menaut. They will also have the support of a state-of-the-art mobile UVI equipped to deal with any incident that may occur during the ten days of competition.

“We are delighted to once again accompany one of the most important championships in Spain, which celebrates 35 years promoting surfing as a sport and healthy lifestyles. At Vithas we share these same objectives as part of our commitment to business sustainability and to promotion of people’s health care in our network of 19 hospitals and 31 medical and assistance centers”, underlined Dr. Pedro Rico, CEO of Vithas.

ACTIVITIES FOR VISITORS

Vithas has scheduled, together with the organization of the Abanca Pantín Classic Galicia Surf Pro, activities aimed at increasing health information for citizens. These activities will take place at the Vithas stand and on the main stage of the event’s public venue.

In this way, the dermatologist Carmen Rodríguez Cerdeira will respond to visitors’ queries about possible skin lesions. To do this, she will use a video dermatoscope that allows her to see spots, moles or pimples in detail and, if necessary, map them to see their evolution over time.

The cardiologist Manuel Valdés and the nurse José Luis Sánchez will carry out various practical workshops throughout the championship on how to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), and basic advice on knowing how to act in any case of unconsciousness of another person until the arrival of the emergency services .

Throughout the week, physiotherapists Alex Dios and Valentín Gutiérrez will offer advice on warming up prior to highly demanding sports, such as professional surfing. In addition, the little ones will be able to meet and color Supervita, the image that decorates the group’s pediatric services, and the protagonist of the cartoon series made for Vithas by the winner of an animation Goya, Paco Sanz.

Finally, the nutritionist of the Vithas Vigo Hospital overweight and obesity unit, Lorena Afonso, will give a talk on how an athlete should eat before competing.
