BARCELONA, 24 Feb. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The ‘City Football Academy Girona’, the new sports city of Girona FC, will soon become a reality when the red and white entity buys some 23-hectare plot of land in Vilablareix (Girona) that will have 7 training fields and the new institutional headquarters of the club, in the farmhouse La Massana.

“Girona FC has begun to make one of its great aspirations a reality; to have its own training center. With this objective, it has made effective the purchase of approximately 23-hectare land located in the municipality of Vilablareix that will become the headquarters of the City Football Academy Girona”, announced the club.

The new rojiblanca home will host the activity of the first teams, men’s and women’s, the Genuine team and the different ‘gironí’ youth football teams.

According to the entity, the draft of the City Football Academy Girona contemplates an investment of around 25 million euros, which will be covered in large part with funds allocated to infrastructure from the Impulse Plan.

The complex will have seven soccer fields, three hybrid grass and four artificial, last generation. One of the hybrid grass pitches will also have a spectator stand. The facility will have all the necessary equipment to host both the first team and the academy.

The estate will maintain the La Massana farmhouse, built in the 16th century, which will become the institutional headquarters and offices of Girona FC. The property has more than a thousand square meters where the different departments of the club will work. Works are scheduled to begin in the second half of 2023.

This new City Football Academy, a project considered strategic and key to the growth of Girona FC, will have state-of-the-art, functional, innovative and sustainable facilities.

The CFA Girona is the new great training facility of the City Football Group and will have the same resources that are used in the other Academies of the Group around the world: Manchester, New York, Melbourne, Montevideo and Santa Cruz (Bolivia).

HISTORIC DAY FOR GIRONA FC

For the president of Girona, Delfí Geli, today is a “historic day” for the entity. “For the first time in 92 years of history, the club will have a headquarters for all the teams. We began to look in 2015, always being clear that we wanted a place near Girona and Montilivi, within a radius of 10-15 kilometers. We have spoken with people and mayors of many towns and all the town halls were delighted that Girona could make the training center. We want to thank everyone for the deal,” he said.

For his part, the general director of the City Football Group, Ferran Soriano, assured that this step was one of the main commitments of the shareholders, which “has already come true”. “The CFA Girona will form part of the global network of City Football Group academies with what this implies; sharing knowledge to develop talent. The players who work at the CFA will have the best technology in the world and excellent facilities”, he celebrated.

Pere Guardiola, president of the club’s Board of Directors and brother of Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola, also assured that when they arrived at Girona FC one of the objectives was to have their own training center for all football, from the first team to the grassroots football “Today it is already a reality and we should all be proud,” he assured.

“We have found the house we were looking for and it is a house for life. And the fact that there is a 16th century farmhouse, La Massana, gives it added value. We have never stopped working to make it possible. This is a success of everyone and it is a project that will make us grow even more,” he said.
