MADRID, 27 Feb. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Spanish men’s rugby team won with authority (38-21) over Romania this Sunday in Madrid, a direct rival, to stay one step away from achieving direct qualification for the next World Cup in France 2023.
The first two teams in the global ranking of the 2021 and 2022 European Championships will obtain the direct passport for the World Cup, while the third will play, in November, the Final Qualifying Tournament.
The XV del León surpassed Romania in the table and placed second, a privileged position that it will have to defend against Portugal on March 13 and a week later in Tbilisi against Georgia. Those of Santi Santos continued their winning dynamic, with an intense start and working with Marco Pinto in the first morning rehearsal.
The Romanian team was in the fight and responded to each attack, but with everything at stake, Spain did not stop in search of the lead. Santos’ men were inspired and withstood the Romanian reaction after the break, dominating but suffering in the end.
