The Panthers have agreed to hire Dave Canales as their new head coach.

They have a new head coach along with a chance to get back on track in more than one way. Thursday, the team hired Dave Canales, the offensive coordinator for the Buccaneers, as the new head coach in the team’s history.

“Dave’s background has its roots in success,” David Tepper, owner of the Panthers, said. “He is creative and has a good attitude that makes it easy for him to get along with players and staff.” We are amazed at how well he can bring off the best in players.

It’s known that Canales, who is 42 years old, works hard and gets the most out of the position groups and units he works with.

He worked with the new Panthers President about Football Operations/General Manager Dan Morgan for eight years in Seattle, so there’s a chance that he and the front office will share the same values.

Before joining the Buccaneers, he played for 13 years with the Seahawks, first under head coach Pete Carroll and then under new coach Mike Smith. Most coaches feared to go where he did his most recent work on the Buccaneers, but it worked right away.

In Tampa, Canales joined quarterback Baker Mayfield this year after Tom Brady retired. Together, they helped the team win the NFC South title and the playoffs.

The Buccaneers had seven plays of 20 yards or greater last year, which helped them get to seventh in the league.

This was possible because their quarterback can throw while moving and get the ball downfield.

People who play with him and anyone else who meets him feel good about themselves. I’m sure that will work out in the field.

Morgan said, “I’m excited to be working with Dave again.” “Being a coach of multiple position sets has given him a deep understanding of what makes a team work well together.”

In 2010, Canales got his start in the NFL as a wide receivers coach on Seattle. He stayed there for eight years and helped the team to win the Super Bowl in 2013.

Before getting the job with the Buccaneers last year, he worked with Russell Wilson for three more years as the team’s quarterbacks coach and for two years as the passing game coordinator.

In his first and only season as an NFL offensive coordinator, Canales led the Buccaneers to the NFC divisional playoffs via Baker Mayfield at quarterback.

The decision came a day after former Titans coach Mike Vrabel was attached to the Panthers’ open position.

The decision came after interviews with other top candidates, such as Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson and Cowboys defensive assistant Dan Quinn.

It also brings back together Canales and Dan Morgan, the new general manager of the Panthers.

Morgan was recently promoted from assistant general manager, and the two served together for seven years, from 2010 to 2017.

Canales is from Harbor City, California, and was an offensive coordinator for the first time in 2023.

He oversaw quarterback Baker Mayfield’s comeback and helped the Buccaneers win their third straight NFC South title and make it to the playoffs, where they beat the reigning NFC champion Eagles to the wild-card round.

Canales had been with the Seahawks for 13 years before that, first as the wide receivers coach from 2010 to 2017 and then as quarterbacks coach from 2018 to 2019 and 2022 and passing attack coordinator from 2020 to 2021.
