The European Super League will meet with UEFA “next week”

BERLIN (GERMANY), Nov. 2 (dpa/EP) –

New Super League boss Bernd Reichart will meet UEFA “next week” in Nyon, Switzerland, to discuss plans to relaunch the competition with European soccer’s governing body.

“I will be in Nyon (Switzerland) next week to discuss this with UEFA. This is what I also understand by dialogue, that you listen to the other side and have confrontational conversations, because certainly we will not be able to agree on everything.” said Bernd Reichart in the podcast ‘Einfach mal Luppen’ of the German Real Madrid footballer Toni Kroos.

Reichart recently became the new CEO of A22 Sports Management, a company that represents Super League teams. The original project, led by Real Madrid, Barcelona and Juventus, collapsed to the anger of fans, clubs and federations, including FIFA and UEFA.

Under the original idea, the 12 member and founding teams were guaranteed participation in the Super League regardless of their performance in their domestic league. A model that generated a lot of criticism.

Recently, the German teams Bayern Munich, RB Leipzig and Borussia Dortmund once again showed their rejection of the project, even if the format changed.

Thus, the start of the planned talks with UEFA should be a “good sign for clubs that are currently still walking away or even fearing sanctions” if they participate in the Super League dialogue, according to Reichart.

Currently, Real Madrid, Barcelona and Juventus are involved in a legal battle against UEFA in the Court of Justice of the European Union. The clubs accuse the body led by Aleksander Ceferin of operating a monopoly; a formal ruling is expected next year.
