Queen Sofía turns 84: her life away from Don Juan Carlos and her unwavering loyalty to Don Felipe

Dona Sofia turns 84 this Wednesday, November 2. A life of loyalty to the family and to the institution that presides over his son, Philip VI. The queen emeritus faces a quiet and discreet stage, always accompanied by her sister, Irene from Greece; and always aware of her two daughters, Elena y Cristina; and the eight grandchildren of him. Since Don Juan Carlos left Spain, in August 2020, to settle in Abu Dhabi, Doña Sofía lives oblivious to the investigations to which her husband has been subjected, her regularization with the Treasury; and above all, the Corinna Larsen case. This birthday of hers comes just when the German businesswoman announces her podcast series in which she recounts the relationship she had with the emeritus and which premieres on November 8 through various platforms.

Doña Sofía, loyal to the Princess of Asturias Awards ceremony since the origins of the awards, attended the 42nd edition to see her granddaughter Leonor deliver her fourth speech at the Campoamor Theatre. Since her debut in Oviedo, in 2019, the princess has delivered three speeches. Her grandmother has always attended. Even in the two previous editions that were held in the toughest years of the pandemic. Nothing, not even the maximum restrictions set by the health authorities, prevented Doña Sofía from attending the ceremonies in a reduced format, especially that of 2020, which was shielded by the Covid. With an FFP2 mask, the queen emeritus followed the act from her seat. The last time we have seen her in an official act was in Oviedo on October 28.

That Doña Sofía has a presence on the Casa Real agenda is not extraordinary. The King’s mother often presides over events related to health, science and culture, thus reinforcing her public image. She is also very active and committed to the environment, sustainability and the pollution of the oceans by microplastics.

We saw one more gesture of his unwavering loyalty to the institution that his son represents and presides over when the princesses Cristina and Elena with five of their children traveled to Abu Dhabi to visit Don Juan Carlos. Doña Sofía did not travel. The undated family photo was released on Good Friday. A viralized inn, which captured all the news interest of Holy Week and overshadowed the reappearance of Leonor in Spain.

It also coincides that on November 8 Corinna Larsen premieres her podcast series, where she recounts with hair and signs the relationship she had with Don Juan Carlos. The German businesswoman has a pending case in the London court against the emeritus, whom she denounced for alleged harassment.
