The Eiffel Tower, protagonist of the Paris 2024 medals

MADRID, 8 Feb. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Organizing Committee of the Paris Olympic and Paralympic Games this coming summer presented its medals for both events this Thursday, with the Eiffel Tower taking center stage, one of the great emblems of the French capital and which will adorn each medal with an original piece of the construction.

According to the organizers, their Athletes Commission, chaired by former biathlete Martin Fourcade, participated in the search for an idea that symbolized “the identity” of these Games and that it was “obvious to associate the iconic monument of France and Paris, the Eiffel Tower , with the most prestigious object of the Games, the medal”.

In this way, each Olympic and Paralympic medal is set with an original piece of iron from the monument built between 1887 and 1889 by Gustave Eiffel, a process in which certain metal elements have been removed and permanently preserved. “For the Paris Games, the Eiffel Tower Operating Company allows these authentic pieces of Parisian and French history to find glory again,” celebrated the Organizing Committee.

For all this design of its medals, Paris 2024 turned to the 'LVMH Chaumet' jewelry house, recognized worldwide for its craftsmanship and which has been based around three sources of inspiration such as the hexagon, the geometric shape of France and reminder of the entire nation's commitment to delivering historic Olympic and Paralympic Games, the brilliance, which embodies both the country's brilliance in the world and the brilliant performances of the athletes at the events, and the setting of gems.

Likewise, the Eiffel Tower has also inspired the unique design of the medal ribbons, which will be adorned with the framework of the construction and will be dark blue, intense red in the case of the Paralympic medals and a mixture of the two. first layers of paint used on the tower.

As for the reverse, this maintains the tradition of telling the story of the revival of the Games in Greece with the figure of Athena Nike emerging from the stadium that witnessed the revival of the Olympic Games in 1896, while the Eiffel Tower appears next to the Acropolis .

For its part, the other side of the Paralympic medals is, according to the organizers, a pure reflection of Paris 2024 and Chaumet's creative choices. A graphic representation of the Eiffel Tower from a higher perspective will give medalists the opportunity to discover it from a rarely seen angle, with the words 'Paris' and '2024' surrounding their feet and written in universal Braille so that visually impaired athletes You can feel the difference between the three metals.
