The Dorsia led by Vía Dufresne and Nuria Sánchez will sail from this 2023 for the RCN Alicante

The Dorsia Sailing Team, led by the double Olympic medalist Natalia Vía-Dufresne at the helm and Nuria Sánchez Nomdedeu as project manager, will participate in the most outstanding regattas on the calendar, including the Copa del Rey de Mallorca in August, as announced in its official presentation at the Real Club Náutico de Valencia.

The president of the Real Club Náutico de Valencia, Marisa Arlandis, Natalia Vía-Dufresne and, among others, Nuria Sánchez Nomdedeu, were present at the presentation of the fifth season of the Dorsia Sailing Team, a benchmark in the one-design class. For the fifth year it will be supported by Clínicas Dorsia as the main sponsor.

Starting this year, the sailing team will sail under the banner of the Real Club de Regata de Alicante and headed by Nuria Sánchez Nomdedeu as ‘Project Manager’ and crew member and Natalia Vía-Dufresne at the helm, in the women’s regattas.

The Dorsia Sailing Team’s main objective this season is to recover the title in the Copa del Rey de Vela, a regatta that they already won in 2021 and will try to revalidate, for the third consecutive year, the victory in the Iberdrola Women’s Sailing Circuit, organized by the Royal Spanish Sailing Federation and that this year will have its final at the Real Club de Regatas de Alicante.

In 2022, they managed to be runners-up in the Copa del Rey, W International Cup champions, Mixed Spain Cup champions, PalmaVela champions, SM la Reina Trophy champions, Tabarca Vela-Diputación de Alicante champions, National Ranking champions, of the Iberdrola League and as a culmination they won the National Sailing Award for the best Women’s Sailing project ‘we want to make history’

Likewise, last year, without abandoning the women’s circuit, she took a step further in the sport of sailing, jumping to the mixed regatta circuit. The Dorsia Sailing Team has positioned itself as a benchmark and wants to show that equality sailing is possible by sailing men and women together in the same team.

Olympic silver medalist in Barcelona’92 and in Athens 2004, world, Spanish and Copa del Rey de Vela champion, Vía Dufresne leads a crew made up of Nuria Sánchez, Marta Peñarrubia, María Torcida and Martina Ruipérez, the latter of only 11 years.

“We want the role of women to be recognized in the men’s boats, with mixed teams. This project, which was born as a challenge, is now an example. The journey together with the sponsors who bet year after year is very important for us”, said the double Olympic medalist.

For his part, Sánchez Nomdedeu stressed that Dorsia is a “reference” team that has been a “revelation” in women’s sailing. “We believe that there is still a long way to go and we want to help young promises, men and women take us as an example. We transmit the values ​​of sailing, equality, sportsmanship and sustainable growth. We want to continue making history now sailing with them and be a benchmark at the highest level”, he commented.

Dorsia will start the calendar in April in the Iberdrola League in Calpe (Alicante), in May it will compete in Palma Vela in Mallorca, Iberdrola League in Getxo and Conde de Godó in Barcelona; in June in the Spanish Championship in Getxo and the Iberdrola League in Madrid; and in July he will participate in the SM La Reina Trophy in Valencia.

The Copa del Rey in Mallorca in August will precede the Príncipe de Asturias and the World Cup, both in Baiona, and the Iberdrola League in Palma de Mallorca in September. The Iberdrola League Champions Final in Alicante in October and the Champions League in A Coruña in November will close their intense programme.
