It is a Belgian black marble inscribed with the queen’s names; her husband, Prince Philip, and her parents, George VI and Elizabeth, the Queen Mother. The tombstone is now in the Chapel of King George VI, where the ashes of Princess Margaret, whose name does not appear in the inscription, also rest.

On the stone you can read the inscriptions “George VI / 1895-1952”, “Elizabeth / 1900-2002”, a star of the Order of the Garter and then “Elizabeth II / 1926-2022” and “Philip / 1921-2021 “. Several bouquets and floral crowns also appear in the photograph. The previous slab only had the names of George VI and the Queen Mother in gold letters.

Windsor Castle, the final scene of the state funeral and burial of Elizabeth II, is scheduled to be reopened to the public next week. There you can visit the remains of the vast majority of the kings and queens of England since Henry VII, who was buried there in the 16th century.
