The 3rd Spanish Basketball Gala celebrates “unparalleled successes”

The 3rd Spanish Basketball Gala was held this Sunday in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria with awards for big names in national basketball, who have forged a legacy that inspires generation after generation with “unparalleled successes”.

“Since this team has the honor, privilege and responsibility of leading the FEB, we understand that we are an organization available and at the service of all of you who make up Spanish basketball. Spanish basketball is a big family, and that is why we we meet once a year, to share and celebrate”, said the president of the FEB, Jorge Garbajosa.

“The successes we achieved are unparalleled. A while ago we won the sixth training medal. And it’s all thanks to the work of all of you. And as president of the FEB I couldn’t feel more proud”, added the president of the Spanish Federation Basketball, during his speech at the gala that took place at the Santa Catalina hotel.

The senior men’s team, concentrated in Gran Canaria since this Sunday on their way to the Eurobasket in September, was present at the gala that distributed various awards. Among the authorities, they attended Juan María Fernández Carnicer, director of the CSD cabinet; Francisco Castellano, Sports Councilor of the Cabildo Insular de Gran Canaria; and Aridany Romero, Sports Councilor of the Las Palmas City Council.

Real Madrid player Sergio Llull was awarded as the ‘Best National Player’. “Thanking the jury for the award is a motivation to continue working, it has been a difficult season but we have finished it very well. Those of us who have been in the team the longest try to transmit the values ​​of the Family to young people,” said the Spaniard.


The MVP of the gala in the female category went to Silvia Domínguez. “The secret is always the same: when you start a season you have to be enthusiastic and hungry to face new challenges, with the ambition to continue growing, adding, improving, which is what keeps a player going. It is very important that now the majority of players of the national team we are in the Endesa Women’s League, that the structures of the clubs continue to grow and that the young players take steps”, she confessed.

The 3rd Spanish Basketball Gala also awarded Willy Hernangómez and María Conde, as the season’s most outstanding international players, as well as honoring legends such as Amaya Valdemoro or those who have played five Games.

Thus, were awarded Joel Parra (Young player with greatest projection); Irati Etxarri (Young player with greater projection); Carmelo Cabrera and Amaya Valdemoro (Legend Award); Sandra Ygueravide; and Pau Gasol, Rudy Fernandez and Juan Carlos Navarro (Special Prize).
