Tennis scandal: a Brazilian tennis player tests positive for COVID … and is allowed to continue playing

This week there was a surreal episode during the celebration of the ATP Challenger in Sao Paulo. While the world remains concerned about the advance of the pandemic and the appearance of the Omicron variant, In the Brazilian tournament, local tennis player Felipe Meligeni has been allowed to play … despite having tested positive for coronavirus.

Everything happened before the quarterfinal match that Meligeni faced with Argentine Andrea Collarini this Thursday, when it was known that Meligeni had tested positive for COVID-19. However, Meligeni was able to play his game against Collarini after testing negative for antigens and even took the match 6-4, 4-6 and 6-3.

The matter did not end there as, after the victory, Meligeni gave up playing his semifinal match against Italian Luciano Dardieri. A situation before which Collarini himself showed his indignation on social networks. “I was calling to ask for explanations, some did not answer and others told me that they are being informed. In this world after corruption it makes me think that everything is being armed so as to stay within the rules. A SHAME”, lamented the Argentine tennis player.
