MADRID, 27 Ago. (EUROPA PRESS) –

Spanish badminton has left its mark at the European Junior Championships in Belgrade, with the pair formed by Lucía Rodríguez and Nikol Carrulla winning gold, while in men’s doubles Dani Franco and Rubén García have taken silver.

The women’s final that pitted the Galician and the Alicante against the English Lisa Curtin and Estelle Van Leeuwen was a fight without quarter. The British took the lead in the early stages of the match and the Spanish responded by taking the lead after the interval.

Although the English did not give their arm to twist, the Spanish managed to sign up the set 21-19. There were moments of infarction in the final stretch of the second set, but the Spanish managed to defend their advantage until sentencing the match 21-16.

For its part, in men’s doubles, the couple formed by Dani Franco and Rubén García from Granada was one step away from the gold medal by losing to the main favorites Houe and Kjaer (12-21 and 12-21).

The Danish duo tried to impose their law from the start and took the first quarter 12-21. Later, with the same trend in the second set, the Granadans fought until the end, but they could not manage their advantage to finish with the same score as in the first set.
