MADRID, 11 Ago. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Spanish goalball team beat the Dutch 8-5 this Friday and, thanks to this, they reached the quarterfinals in the men’s European Championship, which is taking place in Rotterdam (Netherlands), as second in their group. within Division C.

During the fourth day of official competition in this multi-event for people with disabilities, which brings together ten Paralympic European Championships, the Spanish goalball team played two games. After having beaten Azerbaijan 2-12 the day before, Spain completed its role in Group A by first facing France and then the Netherlands.

The 2-9 defeat against the French gave way to the duel against the hosts of this tournament, both the ‘Red’ and the ‘Oranje’ looking for a victory that would improve their position in the group. Thus, the 8-5 favorable to Spain served to finally be in second place; France took the lead after achieving a full of wins.

There are still no eliminations in Division C of the European Championship, since the groups only served to determine the order of the matches. For this reason, the team made up of Pedro Carlos Martín, Sergi Barón, Genis Quiroga, Daniel Sánchez and Jorge Santonja is still in contention, whose next appointment in the Rotterdam Ahoy pavilion will be this Saturday.
