Sorribes seizes the engine in the third set against Errani

Surrendering with the intensity that Sara Sorribes does in each game can take its toll and this Wednesday her body said enough. The 24-year-old from Castellón had to withdraw from the Emilia Romagna Open in Parma with a left thigh problem when she played the third set of her round of 16 match against her Italian namesake, Sara Errani.

The first set had been awarded by 6-4 after giving up his serve and reacting later with two consecutive breaks. Errani, born in Bologna, very close to the tournament venue, balanced the pulse in a crazy second heat in which she got four breaks by three from Sorribes. Everything pointed to an exciting third set when Sorribes' engine grabbed 2-2 and forced him to throw in the towel.

It will be necessary to see how that thigh evolves at the gates of Roland Garros. A long break would be a disappointment for a player who has a very consistent trajectory this year., with a title in Guadalajara (the one in Mexico), semifinals in Monterrey and quarterfinals in Miami, results that have helped him to get into the top 50 of the ranking. Errani, meanwhile, will face American Sloane Stephens in the quarterfinals.

Bucsa faces but falls to Sasnovich

In Belgrade there was also a cross for Cristina Bucsa. The 23-year-old Spanish-Moldovan (born in Chisinau), who had defeated Kovinic in the first round after qualifying through the qualifying phase, succumbed in two hours and 27 minutes to the Belarusian Sasnovich, a very competent player although not he lives his best hours (it is 103rd in the ranking). Bucsa showed his face after 6-4 in the first set and took the second 7-5. So far the opposition came and the last quarter was a 6-0 for Sasnovich, who will face Rakhimova or Osorio in the quarterfinals.
