Simeone: “You smelled that whoever made a mistake lost”

MADRID, 21 Ago. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The coach of Atlético de Madrid, Diego Pablo Simeone, regretted the defeat (0-2) this Sunday against Villarreal, after improving in the second half but giving up in a “tactical” and even “boring” match after which they will continue working .

“It was a very tactical match. There were no risky situations until Correa’s play with Cunha and then Molina’s bad clearance that ended with their goal. A very tight match, we were able to tie it, it could have come before with the 0-2” he said at a press conference.

“These matches with Villarreal, whoever makes a mistake can lose it, the scenario that presents itself favors them and they took advantage of it very well,” added the local coach, after the defeat at the Metropolitano.

The Argentine coach pointed to the improvement in the second half, when they understood how to press. “When they had the ball, we shared a bit of maintaining the anxiety. We couldn’t take advantage of the possession that we had. With centers we could hurt, in some of Morata, but the match was clear, a bit boring, quite tactical, and with the clear situation that it was smelled that the one who made a mistake, lost”, he affirmed.

The ‘Cholo’ referred to a goal by Carrasco that didn’t go up because the ball didn’t go all the way in. “We trust in the technology that the League has. It was 1-1, which was very important, I imagine that Carrasco wanted to secure the goal, Rulli reacted very well, and they understood that the ball had not gone in. We could have tied it at that moment” , said.

“We couldn’t press like we did in the second half. They took advantage of that uncertainty. In the second half we organized ourselves a little better, the changes went in very well. There are good things and things to improve. We have a very complete squad, hopefully we keep what we have and if one leaves, it’s because another comes. We have to manage to play as a team”, he concluded.
