Scottie Scheffler wins The Players and snatches number one from Jon Rahm

MADRID, 13 Mar. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The American golfer Scottie Scheffler won the The Players tournament this Sunday, a prestigious PGA event considered the fifth ‘major’, and snatched the world number one from the Spanish Jon Rahm, who withdrew from the tournament due to illness on Friday.

Scheffler, champion of the Augusta Masters last year, showed his best version at the TPC Sawgrass in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, to claim victory with five strokes from rent over the English Tyrrell Hatton, second. Five ‘birdies’ in a row, from hole 8 to 12, signed his unrivaled victory.

The American pocketed 4.5 million dollars, somewhat less in euros, the highest prize in the PGA, and returned to number one in the world for the second time in 2023. Scheffler and Rory McIlroy were the two candidates to unseat a Rahm who he dropped out of the tournament due to illness before the start of the second day.
