Scariolo: “The goal is to grow as a team”

MADRID, 10 Ago. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The national basketball coach, Sergio Scariolo, explained that he has a team that needs to “grow”, with very young people and little international experience, in preparation for the Eurobasket in September, which brings them together again this Thursday with a Greece that is one step above Spain.

“We want to continue with our preparation, without forgetting that our sights are set very high, very far forward. The goal is to grow as a team, improve our consistency, make fewer mistakes,” he said Wednesday in statements provided by the Spanish Basketball Federation. (FEB).

“Trying to adapt to the physical level that the rival offers us, and this specifically is an extremely physical and athletic rival. Greece is one of the most physical rivals that can be found in national teams. Above all, continue to accumulate experience for our young players, with many players with very little international experience,” he added.

After the clear defeat on Tuesday in Athens, Scariolo does not expect a very big change this Thursday at the WiZink Center, although he trusts that the Spanish fans will not only enjoy NBA player Giannis Antetokounmpo at the Palace. “We expect steps forward, to be able to compete, we know that the rival is in a higher ranking band than ours,” he said.

“We will try to show our faces and try to ensure that all our fans are here not only to admire one of the two or three best players in the world, but also to admire moments and plays by the Spanish team,” he concluded.

On the other hand, Sergio Llull hoped that playing in Madrid would give them a plus in the shooting against the Greeks. “It is key to feel that affection from the fans. With the desire to try to put on a good game for them to enjoy and serve us. It is still a preparation game but the team is going to leave everything”, he pointed out.
