MADRID, 22 Mar. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The former president of the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) Luis Rubiales denied that he is applying for Dominican nationality and justified his presence in the Caribbean country for work reasons after disqualification for the non-consensual kiss of international Jenni Hermoso.
“The thing about Dominican nationality is false. What part is not understood that I am earning a living here? I am working here. I am here more than in Spain. I am trying to generate resources because I have a family,” said the manager in statements to Europa Press.
Rubiales thus responded to information from some Spanish media that indicated that the former president of the RFEF would be processing Dominican nationality, after the Civil Guard registered his home in Granada and the Ciudad del Fútbol of Las Rozas (Madrid) for alleged irregularities. linked to the Spanish Super Cup and the reform of La Cartuja.
The former president of the RFEF expressed this Thursday his willingness to collaborate with Spanish justice and announced his intention to bring forward his return to Spain from the Dominican Republic, scheduled for April 6.
“I have asked the court to bring forward my return when they ask me to,” Rubiales told Europa Press in a message from ‘wasap’, whose defense sent a letter to the judge of the Court of First Instance and Instruction Number 4 of Majadahonda (Madrid). Delia Rodrigo intends to return to Spain on April 6.
However, in the same letter, to which Europa Press had access, he indicated that he is “at the full disposal” of the Court and that he could “return prior to that date if it is deemed necessary and if required to do so.”
Rubiales is in the Dominican Republic, a country where he will join his three daughters and his ex-wife to spend the Easter holidays together and will return to Madrid on April 6, where he will arrive on a flight that will land at 11:25 a.m. .
“We do not know if the arrest of Mr. Rubiales has been ordered, but through this writing we wish to make it clear that he is at the full disposal of this Court in order to clarify the ongoing investigation,” said the defense.
Rubiales’ defense presented the brief this Wednesday after learning that the judge had ordered a battery of proceedings to be carried out within the framework of a secret piece. It refers to a series of entries, searches and arrests in Madrid and Granada.
The lawyer stressed that she has made available to the police authorities the keys to a property belonging to Luis Rubiales in Granada that are in the possession of his father to “avoid unnecessary damage to the property.”
The operation by the Central Operational Unit (UCO) of the Civil Guard for possible corruption in the RFEF initially resulted in the arrest of five people in Madrid and another two in Granada. Among those arrested were former collaborators of Rubiales such as Tomás González Cueto and Ángel González Segura, who were released this Friday by the Judge of First Instance and Investigation of Majadahonda.
Tomás González is being investigated for the alleged commission of the crimes of influence peddling, business corruption and unfair administration, and Ángel González for those of business corruption, document falsification and unfair administration.
