Robinho will go to jail in Brazil for his rape conviction in Italy

The Brazilian Superior Court orders the immediate entry into prison of the former soccer player, with a sentence of nine years

MADRID, 21 Mar. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The former Brazilian footballer from Real Madrid, Manchester City or Milan, Robson de Souza ‘Robinho’, will have to serve a prison sentence in Brazil, which he received in Italy for a rape case in Milan in 2013, as ordered by the Superior Court of Brazilian Justice, awaiting appeals.

Robinho was sentenced to nine years in prison by the Italian justice system in 2022, but he never served the sentence because he returned to Brazil, a country that prohibits the extradition of its citizens. However, Italy asked that the former soccer player serve his sentence in his country and the South American Superior Court ruled this Wednesday in favor of Robinho going to prison.

According to ‘O Globo’, the STJ decided by a majority (9-2) to sentence the man who was a Real Madrid player between 2005 and 2008, “immediately.” The lawyers of the 40-year-old former soccer player intend to appeal to allow him to wait in freedom for the sentence of said appeals.

In January 2022, Robinho was convicted along with five other men for the group rape of a woman in a Milan nightclub, when he was a player for the Italian team in 2013, taking advantage of the fact that she was unconscious after being forced to drink alcohol in large quantities. .
