Robert Lewandowski enters his RL9 Team in the Hexagon Cup of padel

MADRID, 15 Nov. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The FC Barcelona and Poland national team player Robert Lewandowski will preside over the RL9 Team club that will participate in the Hexagon Cup, an innovative padel competition that aims to “transform the sport” and that will take place at the Madrid Arena in February 2024.

Lewandowski, current ‘Pichichi’ of LaLiga and offensive reference for Barça and his country, joins a padel tournament that aims to change the sport of 20×10 and in which the tennis player Rafa Nadal will also be present, through an official team from his Rafa Nadal Academy by Richard Mille.

“Paddle tennis is the biggest sport in Spain after football and since I live and play here, I have caught paddle fever,” said Robert Lewandowski, owner of the RL9 Hexagon Cup team, about the reasons for signing up for this new adventure.

“I look to the future and see many opportunities. Padel will grow even more around the world. I heard about the Hexagon Cup and I loved the concept of attracting team owners from different sports. This is my opportunity to bring my passion for the sport at the next level,” added ‘Lewangol’.

For its part, the organization welcomed the Pole to “the Hexagon Cup family.” “With this exciting addition, we reinforce the nature of this tournament as a global event that attracts great personalities from other sporting disciplines,” said the founder and member of the Hexagon Cup Advisory Board, Enrique Buenaventura.

“Our mission is to attract the best players in the world, provide the most inclusive platform to support emerging talents and grow the padel fan base around the world, so having Robert Lewandowski and his team demonstrate that the Paddle is an inclusive sport that transcends borders,” he added.

Born under the motto ‘For the Fans. For the Players. For the Game’ (‘For the fans, for the players, for the game’), the Hexagon Cup is an innovative padel tournament that brings together male, female and next generation players, along with team owners from various branches of sport and entertainment, with one million euros for the winner of the first edition.

Following the presentation of the six teams and their franchise players, which will occur in the coming weeks, a Player Draft will be held at the end of November in which each team will select the remaining players. In a single decision, fans will have the final responsibility of choosing the players who will make up the Hexagon Cup team.

During the tournament itself, the six teams will be divided into two qualifying groups, competing in a series of exciting head-to-head matchups. Only the top two teams from each group will advance to the finals, where the inaugural Hexagon Cup champion will be crowned, with a prize pool of one million euros up for grabs.

The first edition of the Hexagon Cup will take place in the historic Madrid Arena, an ideal setting to create a great show. The event will include an attractive Fan Village with autograph signing sessions, player training areas, live concerts, entertainment, shops, exhibitions, food trucks and high-quality dining options.
