River Plate announces 10 positives for coronavirus one day after the match against Boca

River Plate communicated this Saturday the positive for COVID-19 of 10 first team players, one day before the duel against Boca Juniors in the quarterfinals of the Argentine League Cup.

According to the official statement of the “millionaire”, the infected players are Paulo Díaz, Federico Girotti, Enrique Bologna, Germán Lux, Robert Rojas, Nicolás de la Cruz, Rafael Borré, Bruno Zuculini, Tomás Castro Ponce and Franco Petroli.

All the affected players, with the exception of Lux, Castro Ponce and Petroli, were part of the call that the club announced on Friday to face the ‘xeneize’.

The team led by Marcelo Gallardo suspended the concentration originally scheduled for this Saturday at the Alvear Icon Hotel in Buenos Aires.

The tests were done this Saturday, after some players presented symptoms compatible with COVID-19.

The team also passed a test on Friday and they all tested negative except for goalkeeping coach Alberto Montes.

The match between Boca Juniors and River Plate is scheduled for this Sunday at 17:30 local time (18:30 GMT).

Marcelo Gallardo loses key players for the team, who in addition to the clash against Boca has on the horizon the match against Colombian Santa Fe next Wednesday, corresponding to the fifth day of the group stage of the Copa Libertadores.
