The Spanish athletes Reyes Estévez and the Uruguayan Nicolás Cuestas, record holder of the test with 28:53, will be the captains of the North and South teams in the KLM North vs South race, which will be held on June 23 (9:00 a.m. ) over 10 kilometers in Madrid, as the organizers announced this Wednesday in a statement.
Nicolás Cuestas will seek the double this year, the individual triumph in his preparation for the Paris Olympic Games and glory for the South, which after winning last year dominates the record with 9 victories compared to the North’s 5.
Facing Cuestas will be the legend of national athletics, Reyes Estévez, triple world medalist and continental champion. In his ‘second youth’, Estévez achieved a time of 28:56 in El Derbi de las Aficiones de Madrid in 2023, at the age of 47.
In the KLM North vs South, Reyes Estévez wants to recover the champion title for the North, which they lost last year, after 5 consecutive victories with other legends of national athletics such as Martín Fiz or Abel Antón, and the Olympian Lucía Rodríguez at the helm.
Nicolás Cuestas and Reyes Estévez will be two of the great favorites for the absolute individual victory of this edition of the KLM North vs South. Thanks to KLM Royal Dutch Aviation Company, main sponsor of the event, the overall male and female winners will receive a double ticket, departing from Spain, to any international destination operated by the Dutch company.
Last year, Nicolás Cuestas and Lidia Campo were the ones who flew from Madrid to the world after winning a race that crosses the streets of Madrid, from Plaza Castilla (Mateo Inurria) to Atocha (Paseo de la Infanta Isabel).
