Raúl de Tomás: “Going to the World Cup in Qatar would be the greatest achievement of my career”

BARCELONA, 23 MAR. (EUROPA PRESS) –

RCD Espanyol striker Raúl de Tomás confessed that going to the Qatar World Cup “would be the greatest achievement” of his sports career after chaining his second call-up with the Spanish team, which will return to Catalonia 18 years later to play a friendly this Saturday against Albania at the RCDE Stadium in Barcelona.

“It would be for me the greatest achievement in my sports career and personally to be in a World Cup. And in case it doesn’t happen, I’ll be supporting and cheering on the national team as I’ve always done,” explained the attacker from Madrid in an interview with El Sportsman’s Club collected by Europa Press.

De Tomás has fourteen league goals with Espanyol, the twelfth place in the competition. “I know it can hurt me because in the end the leading teams have more competitions, more games and more scoring opportunities,” added the Blue and Whites’ benchmark.

“I’m a winning person, I like big challenges and it’s a privilege for me to be an icon at this club. My goal is to improve day by day and help this club grow for the future”, said ‘RdT’, to whom He is motivated by “being the star” of RCD Espanyol.

The first call from the National Team came in November when he replaced Ansu Fati on the list. “The Espanyol delegate told me. He was on the beach and he called me to tell me that I had to show up on Monday in Las Rozas. It was something I will never forget and I am very grateful to Luis Enrique and his entire coaching staff for deciding to have with me,” said the striker.
