Queen Letizia, with a red vest and boots, heads to Guatemala: she picks up Doña Sofía’s baton

With khaki jeans, Panama Jack boots and the red vest of a volunteer at the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID). This is how we will see Doña Letizia land in Guatemala, the destination of her next aid trip. A country that her mother-in-law, Doña Sofía, already visited ten years ago.

On solo cooperation trips the Queen projects her international image in a field of social work, commitment to women, family and education. Doña Letizia, through the AECID, knows first-hand the solidarity projects supported by the association and the volunteers in favor of the most disadvantaged groups.

During her visit, the Queen will be accompanied by the first lady, Lucrecia Eugenia Peinado, who came to Madrid last February with her husband, President César Bernardo Arévalo de León. Both had lunch with the Kings at the Royal Palace of the capital (image below).

Letizia thus takes up the witness of the queen emeritus, who visited Guatemala in 2014, the same year of her husband’s abdication, which gave way to the proclamation of her son, Felipe VI. In fact, for the emeritus it was her last trip of cooperation before Don Felipe ascended the Throne.

Initially, a country in Africa had been considered, but the complicated situation in the Sahel meant that this option was ruled out, according to The world. Just like the Middle East, due to the Hamas and Israel War.
