Playas de Castellón achieves an absolute historic triplet in the Spanish Club Cross Country Championship

Playas de Castellón has achieved an absolute historic triplet, in men’s, women’s and mixed relay categories, in the 58th edition of the Spanish Cross Club Championship, which was held this Sunday in Soria jointly with the XXIX International Cross of Soria .

Of the 2,657 athletes who participated in the event, belonging to the World Athletics Cross Country Tour -Gold category-, 2,202 were competing in the national championship.

In the absolute women’s category, the Ethiopian Likina Amebaw, from Playas de Castellón and based in Ávila, surpassed her compatriot Asayech Ayichew in the final sprint, with the Italian Valentina Gemetto completing the podium. Among the Spanish, Marta García (independiente) finished fourth, just ahead of Carolina Robles (Bilbao Atletismo) sixth and Irene Sánchez-Escribano (adidas); All three have earned preselection for the European cross country in Brussels.

The team title went to Playas de Castellón (23 points), in which Likina Amebaw, Cristina Espejo, Blanca Fernández and Laura Santos scored. The silver medal went to Bilbao Atletismo and the bronze medal went to Valencia Club de Atletismo. The first two will be present in the next European Club Cup in Albufeira.

On the other hand, absolutely masculine, the victory went to Burundian Rodrigue Kwizera, of Castellón Beaches, who was imposed almost over the finish line to Kenyan Hillary Chepkwoni, with Ugandan Martin Kiprotich third. Fourth was Spaniard Ouassim Oumaiz; the other two Spaniards who have earned preselection for the European cross country are Navarro Nassim Hassaous (Atletismo Bikila) and Toledano Sergio Paniagua (Playas de Castellón), seventh and eighth, respectively. Madrid’s Fernando Carro (Nike Running) was ninth; adopted Castilian Thierry Ndikumwenayo (Castellon Beaches), tenth; and Alicantean Andreu Blanes (Hoka), twelfth.

Playas de Castellón won the men’s team title with only 19 points thanks to the places of Kwizera, Paniagua, Ndikumwenayo and Abderrahman El Khayami. Atletismo Bikila (43) and Cárnicas Serrano (70), winner last year, were second and third.

In the mixed relay, Playas de Castellón dominated the day with a team made up of Judith Otazua, Jorge David Torre, Mireya Arnedillo and Víctor Ruiz. Alcampo Scorpio from Zaragoza won silver and GoFit Athletics from Madrid won bronze.

In the women’s U-23, the victory went to Valencian Laura Domene (Metaesport Riba-Roja Turia), with the ADAS CUPA of O Barco de Valdeorras (Ourense) as team champion. In the men’s category, Alejandro Quijada from Madrid, from Playas de Castellón, also team champion, won.

The Catalan Ámbar Tomás (FC Barcelona) achieved individual victory in the women’s U-20 category, with a club victory for the Getafe Sports Center; In the men’s category, the winners were Playas de Castellón and the Ugandan Dismas Yeko (Clínica Menorca CAUG of Guadalajara).

María Viciosa from Valladolid and Andrés González from Extremadura were proclaimed Under-18 champions, with Playas de Castellón and Escuela de Atletismo Plasencia as team dominators in the women’s and men’s categories, respectively.

In Under-16, Sabela Castelo from Pontevedra and Xavi Cabanilles from Valencia achieved the individual victories, and Ardillas de El Escorial, in the women’s category, and Atletismo Cuenca, in the men’s category, the collective victories.
