Piqué, one step away from buying the historic Red Star in Paris

In an interview granted this Friday to the newspaper The Team, Gerard Piqué has confirmed that his company, Kosmos, was one step away from buying the historic Red Star de Saint-Ouen, one of the most emblematic clubs in French football and currently playing in the third division. Finally, the Parisian team was sold to the American Investment Fund 777 Partners, with which there have already been problems with their fans.

“We were two fingers away from buying the Red Star. Unfortunately, we were a little late in the negotiations. But I went to Paris, I saw the stadium, I negotiated with Patrice Haddad, the owner at the time… I was interested because we were doing very well since we bought Andorra. We recovered the team in the 5th division and now we are first in the Third Division (D3 details the interview) and we can go up. We try to seek to replicate this model in another team. And the Red Star, for its history and for being in Paris (Saint-Ouen) for its spectacular fans, its stadium that was being renovated… We liked it a lot. We made a good offer at the last minute, but it didn’t materialize. Buying equipment is part of our project“, underlined Pique to The Team.

Red Star is one of the teams with the most tradition and history in French football. Although his season has not been all that good in National, many owners have been interested in an ambitious team whose main objective is promotion to Ligue 1 in the short term. Piqué tried to acquire it, but was a little late in executing the offer.
