Penélope Cruz confesses that she tried to adopt a child in India: “It couldn’t be”

However, for the 2009 Oscar winner (for Vicky Cristina Barcelona), the success of his career is secondary in his life: “My priority is my family.” The Madrid native has opened up in an interview in which she reveals what her day-to-day life is like with Javier Bardem and his sons, Leo and Moonand even a secret that had remained in the shadows until now: “I tried to adopt by myself on a trip to India, but it didn’t happen.”

That, as Penélope Cruz explains in the magazine Ellehappened almost 30 years ago, during a trip to the country that changed her life: “I went to Calcutta when I was 20 and worked in Mother Teresa’s houses. I was a volunteer and found babies lying on the sidewalk while the parents were away. there asking… When I passed near the cribs there was a blind baby who, when he sensed that someone was passing by, would throw himself on your neck so that you could hold him. That trip changed my life a lot,” he confessed.

Years later, and already with Javier Bardem (to whom she said “I do” in an intimate ceremony in the Bahamas), Penelope fulfilled her dream of becoming a mother: in 2011 Leo was born and two years later they welcomed Luna. “They are my priority and we both try to always be present in their upbringing”, has counted. Both select their projects based on domestic needs and confess that they have slowed down to be able to spend more time at home. “Sometimes they can offer me something, although if it is during the course or if it is not in our city or it is not in the summer, That’s just why I’ve said no to many things. And I will never regret it.”

Furthermore, she has revealed the unbreakable pact she maintains with her husband: “I have a sacred rule and that is that we don’t talk about them. If one day they have a job facing the public, then they will have to learn to deal with that. But right now it doesn’t matter, they are just two children who we absolutely protect.”
