Paula Badosa says goodbye to Madrid against Halep

The number two in the world, much surpassed in the second round by the champion in 2016 and 2017

MADRID, 30 Abr. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Spanish tennis player Paula Badosa conceded this Saturday a tough defeat (6-3, 6-1) against the Romanian Simona Halep with which she said goodbye to the Mutua Madrid Open in the second round, a WTA 1,000 appointment that is played on clay, just as she fell the also Spanish Nuria Párrizas, before the Russian Ekaterina Alexandrova (6-4, 7-5).

The Catalan, with high aspirations before her public, met a very inspired Halep, in a season in which she recovers her best version. After paying off her debut with flying colors, both at La Caja Mágica as number two in the world, Badosa did not have her day this time at Manolo Santana to continue with her great moment.

Halep, champion in 2016 and 2017 in Madrid, proved to know the track and the conditions well, in addition to having the level that led her to be number one in the world and two ‘Grand Slams’. The duel was more about the final rounds than a second step in the table and Badosa started again stressed, and losing her serve.

The second seed pressed without hesitation and recovered the ‘break’ with a lot of work (3-3). With the sleeve even, Halep put the direct that she would not let go until she saw herself in the third round. The Romanian made it 6-3 in the first set and in the second chained another five games (5-0). After 3-0, Badosa received treatment on her shoulder.

Some inconvenience that undoubtedly did not help the Catalan, as it was also made impossible by a determined Halep, full of winning shots, until she made it 6-1. Badosa, who last year reached the semifinals in Madrid, left with her head down, already thinking about the next challenge of being among the best each week.

After the plenary session in the first round, Spanish women’s tennis conceded two defeats this Saturday since Párrizas said goodbye in the day session. The Andalusian began with a ‘break’ against which, despite the fight, cost her the first set. The reaction of one of the architects of Spain’s recent pass to the Billie Jean King Cup Finals was immediate in the second act.

Párrizas broke to start her comeback, but Alexandrova responded with a double ‘break’. The Granadan returned to the charge with the fighting ability that characterizes her but the Russian responded again to break in the eleventh game and seal her pass.
