MADRID, 15 Abr. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Spanish tennis player Paula Badosa has surpassed her debut in the Stuttgart tournament (Germany), in the WTA 500 category and held on clay, by defeating the Russian Diana Shnaider (6-3, 6-4), while Alejandro Moro has achieved his first victory on the ATP circuit by beating the Austrian Dominic Thiem (6-4, 6-4) in his debut in the main draw of the Munich (Germany) tournament, in the ATP 250 category and also played on clay.

The Catalan, currently number 93 in the WTA ranking, took the lead in the first set by stringing together two consecutive breaks (4-1), before defending herself from three break attempts by Shnaider in the seventh game. On her second chance, she won the set.

Already in the second set, she wasted three break chances in the fourth game, but she recovered by breaking the Russian’s serve in the seventh to put the victory on track. After wasting four match points, she did not fail on the fifth, which allowed her to meet again with her great friend Aryna Sabalenka; The Belarusian already defeated the Spanish in the Miami tournament (United States).

Meanwhile, Alejandro Moro from Madrid, 23 years old and number 240 in the world, signed his first major victory on the circuit by beating Thiem, winner of 17 ATP titles and currently number 105 in the ranking, in the first round of the Munich tournament.

Moro, who entered the final draw from the previous round, recovered from the 2-0 lead with which the Austrian took the lead and won four consecutive games to turn the match around. Despite his opponent’s counterbreak, he broke again in the tenth game to take the opening set.

Thiem took a 2-0 lead again at the start of the second set, but Moro, with two breaks, managed to close the duel in his favor after an hour and 50 minutes of fighting. Now, world number 15, American Taylor Fritz, awaits him in the second round.
