Pacheta takes charge of Villarreal

Coach José Rojo Martín ‘Pacheta’ will lead Villarreal until the end of the season, the Castellón club confirmed this Saturday, so the Burgos player takes over from Cantabrian Quique Setién, dismissed as coach of the yellow first team due to poor results.

Along with Pacheta, Chema Monzón will also join the team, as second coach; Jorge Trigueros, as physical trainer; and Guillem Galmes, as analyst. The Castilian-Leonese coach will be presented next Monday at 12:30 p.m. at the José Manuel Llaneza Sports City, and will subsequently lead his first training session.

The 55-year-old from Salas de los Infantes wore the shirts of Numancia, Espanyol, Mérida, Real Burgos, Atlético Marbella and Racing Lermeño before hanging up his boots and starting his career as a coach at CD Numancia.

Later, he sat on the benches of Real Oviedo, FC Cartagena, Korona Kielce of Poland, Hércules, Ratchaburi Mitr Phol of Thailand, Elche, SD Huesca and Real Valladolid, his last experience before taking the Villarreal command.

Among his successes as a coach, the two promotions to the First Division achieved with Elche and Real Valladolid stand out; With the Elche team he achieved two promotions, one to the Second Division and the other to LaLiga EA Sports.

Last Tuesday, Quique Setién was dismissed after the team suffered three defeats in the first four days of LaLiga EA Sports. Villarreal currently occupies fifteenth place in LaLiga EA Sports after losing to Real Betis (1-2), FC Barcelona (3-4) and Cádiz (3-1) and signing only one victory, against RCD Mallorca (0-1).
