Borussia Dortmund have reported that Sébastien Haller, their star signing, has been forced to leave the stage urgently
Borussia Dortmund has reported that Sebastien Haller, his star signing for next season, has been forced to urgently leave the pre-season stage in Bad Ragaz (Switzerland) when a testicular tumor was detected today.
These are some examples of players who suffered from this same disease and overcame it.
Lubo Penev
Former Valencia footballer, he also beat the cancer that was detected in 1994 in his left testicle. Quick detection was key to overcoming him and after a year of fighting he returned to the pitch. He signed for Atlético de Madrid and was key in the Atletico double in 1996.
Arjen Robben
He knew the disease very closely. At the age of 20 and when he was a member of Chelsea, he was diagnosed with testicular cancer. “Football is no longer important,” said the Dutchman upon hearing the news. He suffered a relapse some time later because he was not fully cured.
Jonas Gutierrez
Argentine and former Newcastle footballer, among others, overcame the illness that was diagnosed in 2013. After a year of recovery, he returned to the pitch and scored the decisive goal that gave Newcastle permanence in the Premier League.
Jose Francisco Molina
He announced in October 2002 that he had testicular cancer. The former Atlético de Madrid and Deportivo de la Coruña goalkeeper, among others, an absolute international with Spain, recovered after undergoing a three-month treatment with chemotherapy sessions. The goalkeeper once again dressed in shorts and defended the goal for the A Coruña team.
Sergio Aragonese
He suffered from cancer twice, both testicular. First in 2005, when he had just signed for Elche. After overcoming it, in 2007, in a routine check-up, another tumor was detected again in the same area. He overcame it again to continue playing in the First Division with Tenerife.
Yeray Alvarez
On December 23, 2016, a few months after making his debut with Athletic, the Atletico center-back announced that he was suffering from a testicular tumor. He reappeared on the pitch almost two months later, but suffered a relapse later that year in May. And he had to face chemotherapy.
