MUNICH, Jan. 26 (dpa/EP) –
German defender Niklas Süle will leave Bayern Munich at the end of this season after negotiations broke down on his contract, which ends in June this year, club CEO Oliver Kahn confirmed on Wednesday.
“The negotiations with Süle dragged on, we have made him an offer and he has not accepted it. He wants to leave the club at the end of the season,” Kahn said.
The 26-year-old German center-back arrived at Bayern from Hoffenheim for 20 million euros and can now leave for free in the next summer market, since his contract ends in June 2022. Among the teams that sound strong to become with Süle is FC Barcelona, which would thus renew the central zone of the defender.
In turn, Kahn pointed out that Bayern have been looking for alternatives in their defense for a long time, although he also stated that players like Lucas Hernández or Benjamin Pavard can also act as central defenders. “There are many possibilities, but it is quite clear that Bayern must always look for players if a player leaves,” Kahn said.
Thus, Bayern could have looked at Chelsea central defenders Antonio Rüdiger and Andreas Christensen, who also end their contract with the English team in June and could come to the German club for free.
