Hutchins’ family defends through their lawyers that the actor “cannot hide” saying that he was a “cold” weapon because “he should have insisted that they show it to him.” Furthermore, they explain that the scene they were filming “did not require Baldwin’s gun to be fired at all.”

The family also blames the film’s gunsmith, Hannah Gutiérrez-Reed, responsible for the security protocol, and the assistant director, David Halls, among others, as explained by his lawyer, Gloria Allred, at a press conference.

“I would like the culprits to bear the responsibility (…) I think that letting this go unpunished is inadmissible,” said the lawyer. Likewise, the legal representative has added that the life of the Hutchins family nucleus was “damaged” after the event and that “anyone responsible for this loss must respond.”

This new lawsuit comes just ten days after the first attorney for the judicial district of New Mexico, Mary Carmack-Altwies, formally file two counts of manslaughter against Baldwin and Gutierrez-Reedwho could face up to six and a half years in prison.

On the other hand, last October, the husband of the cinematographer, Matthew, withdrew a lawsuit it had filed against the American interpreter after reaching an agreement with their respective legal teams. He went on to executive produce the film. However, his agreement must be approved by a judge, which would allow the Rust continue filming more than a year and a half later.

Case ‘Rust’

The events occurred on October 21, 2021 during a rehearsal on the filming set of Rust and, since then, several lawsuits have been filed, including by members of the team accusing the production of not complying with security protocols. Alec Baldwin himself, He claims he is not responsible for what happenedsued the gunsmith and several members of the team for negligence.
