Munuera Montero will direct the Cup final between Athletic and Mallorca

MADRID, 2 Abr. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Andalusian José Luis Munuera Montero will direct the final of the 2023-2024 Copa del Rey between Athletic Club and RCD Mallorca this Saturday at the La Cartuja Stadium, as confirmed this Tuesday by the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) in a release.

The referee from Jaén was promoted to the First Division in the 2016/17 season, making his debut in a match between RC Celta and Leganés. That same campaign won the Vicente Acebedo Award awarded by the RFEF Technical Committee of Referees.

In the highest category he has already directed 149 matches. In this edition of the Copa del Rey he has refereed four matches, including the quarterfinals between Mallorca and Girona. In addition, he refereed two other matches for the Balearic Islands, which also ended with a vermilion victory. In the case of Athletic, this season he has directed two matches for the ‘lions’, both with victories for the rojiblancos.

Munuera Montero, international referee since 2019 and who will direct his first Cup final, will be accompanied on the VAR by Eduardo Prieto Iglesias, who this season has made a total of 62 games from the video referee position.

In addition, the Copa Rey final between Athletic and Mallorca will once again have semi-automatic offside technology, as happened last season, in the title duel between Real Madrid and Osasuna also in La Cartuja.
